Welding Enclosures - SafeHouse Habitats
SafeHouse habitats welding enclosures have proven to many operators and contractors, after rigorous examination and evaluation exercises, that it is a significant innovation compared to the traditional type habitats when the applied criteria is either safety performance or cost effectiveness.
Welding Enclosure Benefits
The principal benefit that SafeHouse will deliver to any project is the speed of installation, whether it be a small standard
cube shape or a larger 4m habitat the standard time required for installation is 4
hours for the smaller habitat or 1 to 2 shifts for a larger more complex structure.
1 man can install a small habitat; a larger structure requires 2 operatives. If the project scope includes a requirement
for a number of different habitats to cover different work faces the habitats can be dismantled and re-erected as the work
progresses.
This feature delivers significant benefits to the project schedule while minimising the manpower allocation and the offshore
accommodation requirement.
Typically 2 or 3 habitats are supplied to be recycled around 9 or 10 different applications, this highlights the versatility of
the habitat that is a consequence of the modular panel arrangement.
The package is very light, the weight if a 2m2 package is only 92 kgs.all of the component parts can be easily lifted and carried by one man reducing the risk of manual handling injuries, there is also the possibility of transporting the habitat by helicopter should the requirement merit this type of arrangement in the event of a failure of critical equipment or a similar unplanned event.
Welding Enclosure Applications
The SafeHouse pressurised habitat has been used for a number of different applications where there is a requirement to eliminate or reduce risk to a manageable level for the performance of all types of hot work.
The habitats are used for the complete range of offshore works, for example:
• Installation of new pipe work for
Brownfield developments.
• Installation of new structural supports for
platform upgrades.
• Repair of plant equipment, crane booms
or damaged pipe work.
Welding Enclosure Features
Among the unique features contained within the package you will find the following:
The principal components are Modular Panels fabricated from high specification flame retardant fabric, the panels are zipped together to create the required size and shape of habitat, the internal seams are lined with Velcro strips to minimise pressure loss. The inflated habitat can form most shapes, this is particularly important where the work area is within a confined space or where there are restrictions preventing the installation of a standard cube or box shape.
A habitat structure of different sizes can be created by zipping together different panels if the application requires a 6m long x 4m wide x 2m high habitat, the only limitation on the size of the habitat is the availability of sufficient air to inflate and maintain positive pressure.
Other dimensioned or special panels can be manufactured if it is the case that the standard panels are unsuitable for the application.
The habitat is largely self supporting when inflated however it is advised to anchor the roof and wall panels to scaffolding or
steelwork, this is achieved by fastenings secured to the cleats on the panels. When the habitat is deflated it will not collapse and fall to the deck.
Welding Enclosure Operation
The habitat is inflated by means of compressed air supplied from a compressor or from the platform’s plant air utilities system; the requirement is less than 1 bar.
The air delivered into the habitat environment is of breathing quality; there is also an exhaust facility to remove welding or other harmful fumes.
